Frequently Asked Questions

Unfortunately the government has stopped all Logbook instructors being appointed, meaning there are only a few around Adelaide, and if new legislation is passed in parliament in the future, logbook will stop all together.

The Driving Company teaches vehicle on road test methods/learning to students.  This is teaching students to step that are within the Driving Handbook which you can download or purchase from Services SA.

The number of lessons varies depending on the individual. The first lesson will be an hour lesson, which is an assessment of where the students skill level is at, and we will plan to build on that. The VORT practical requires the rights steps in the right order.  This gives the baseline skills which helps to give students the best chance at being a safe driver for their lives.

You absolutely can, it’s your choice.  However consider how, as we age, we tend to let bad habits creep into our driving (hello 10 and 2 hands!) and to be honest, driving becomes very automatic, so we lose the ability to remember the exact steps when teaching the steps.  We recommend that you can teach your child the basics of driving, how to start a car, the controls, basic slow speed driving and turning left and right  We then have a good base to build on and teach the exact steps.  It is highly recommended to get a copy of the drivers handbook from ServicesSA or downloading and printing it from the website. This offers all the information and steps needed to know for the test. Within this book is the log of driving to fill out to record the driving hours of the learner. They need 75 hours with 15 night hours.

The Driving Company vehicle is automatic, but if you would like to learn how to drive a manual, after an assessment in our vehicle, we can offer lessons in your vehicle, if it meets the our requirements.

Bring your licence, wear comfortable clothes, and preferably closed in shoes (to maintain safety with the accelerator and brake).

Wear glasses if required.

We will make our bookings so that we are able to come to the students house or school and drop off there.

We may charge additional fees for locations further out of our way.

Prices

1.5 hour lesson - $150

Depending on the number of hours driving the student has, will depend what happens each lesson. Tailored solution individually provided.

Depending on the location: we will pick up the student from a pre arranged location.

1 hour lesson - $100

1 hour lesson and Vehicle on Road Test (VORT) $450

This will be when the student is assessed as being ready to sit the test. The hour lesson will be to go through the steps to bring it all to the forefront of the students mind to give them the best chance to pass the VORT. Passing the VORT means they can get their P plates and drive independently!

1 hour night drive -$120

Each student needs 15 night driving hours and we understand that maybe this is difficult for students to get supervising drivers to get this done. We can help you out!

Country Drive (price/time TBC)

Our Country roads lead us to some amazing places, but can be tricky to navigate. And we understand not all parents want to teach their children on Country roads. It’s important the learner drivers know how to drive on Country roads safely, with as much knowledge as possible about the signage, and how to read the road ahead.. In alignment with out mission- to make the safest drivers, we offer this service if it’s needed.

1.5 hour life drive and vehicle awareness $150

Sometimes we understand that students need additional help to learn more about their car. How to fill petrol, what happens if you get the wrong fuel, where is the oil, the water tank, how to change a tyre, when and how to add air to a tyre, where to find the PSI, what to do if you’re in an accident.

We offer this as an additional lesson.

5-10 lesson package

We understand that not all parents have the time or maybe patience to take their children out and some adult learners don’t have qualified supervising drivers to get their hours clocked. If this is you, or you’d like to just have a good basis of knowledge for beyond the test and the shiny new P plates please contact us for pricing options. You may even want some lessons after the P plates are on the car for some detailed driving knowledge. The pricing may be based on times and location of pick up and availability.
